ISO

What is ISO?
  • How sensitive the camera is to available light
  • Measured in ISO's
  • Controls how much grain is in the picture
How ISO works technically (in camera) & visually (in photo)
  • Technically: ISO is how sensitive the camera is to light
  • Visually: The lower the ISO is, the less grain there is in the picture. the higher the ISO, the more grain there is in the picture
  • With a low ISO, your picture will be better quality and less light sensitive
  • With a high ISO, your picture will be lower quality and more light sensitive
  • The smaller the number, the less grain
  • The larger the number, the more grain
What happens to the exposure triangle when you change your ISO?
  • When changing the ISO, the aperture stayed the same and the shutter speed changed
  • With a lower ISO, the quality of the picture is better and less grain is apparent
  • With a higher ISO,the quality of the picture is worse and more grain is apparent
